Before you begin your application with us you should already have your personal statement ready, and should have begun thinking about what you are going to submit as your visual portfolio. A personal statement and visual portfolio provide us with a window into your creative voice and style prior to interview. Visual portfolio requirements will change from course to course so please look for the correct information below before submitting your application.

Writing your Personal Statement

You should limit your personal statement to about 500 words, and keep it as focused as possible.

Be specific, be clear and most importantly, tell us why we should choose you!

Creating your Visual Portfolio

We are looking for people who are passionate about filmmaking and storytelling.

We would like you to demonstrate your creativity and storytelling ability and give us an idea of your voice no matter what work you choose to submit.

 

 

Visual Portfolio Requirements:

BA Practical Filmmaking with Integrated Foundation Year 

  • A short film, 2-3 minutes in length (uploaded to vimeo/youtube/personal website) – Your name and role must appear in the credits*
  • Storyboard or mood board (with accompanying 250 word synopsis)
  • Story told through Photography  (with accompanying 500 words)

*If you have a short film that is longer than 3 minutes, please feel free to indicate the timestamps you would like us to view. Alternatively, the first 3 minutes will be viewed if you do not have a preference. 

BA Screenwriting with Integrated Foundation Year

  • A short script (3-5 pages in length)
  • A short story or creative writing piece
  • A storyboard or mood board with a short story (500 words)
  • A short film that you wrote or contributed to (uploaded to vimeo/youtube) – Your name and role must appear in the credits

BA Acting for Screen with Integrated Foundation Year

  • A recorded contemporary monologue (1 minute in length)
  • A short film or a recorded theatre project (uploaded to vimeo/youtube) – Your name and role must appear in the credits
    *the monologue should be from a published play, script, film or television series, not self written

BA Practical Filmmaking

  • A short film, 2-3 minutes in length (uploaded to vimeo/youtube/personal website) – Your name and role must appear in the credits*

*If you have a short film that is longer than the required time, please note that only the first 3 minutes will be viewed.

BA Screenwriting

  • A short script (3-5 pages in length)

BA Acting for Screen

  • A recorded contemporary monologue (1 minute in length)
    *the monologue should be from a published play, script, film or television series, not self written

MA Filmmaking:

Please choose one of the following for your portfolio submission:

  • A showreel or short film no longer than 3-5 minutes (uploaded to vimeo/youtube/personal website). For each piece you submit in your showreel or short film you must state your role, this must appear in the credits*
  • A treatment for a grad film 

*If you have a short film that is longer than the required time, please note that only the first 5 minutes will be viewed.

MA Screenwriting 

Please choose one of the following for your portfolio submission:

  • A short script (within 5-7 pages in length)

Where appropriate, give us some context for your visual portfolio, outlining why your submitted these particular pieces.

You can tell us this in a separate statement or include it in your personal statement, but be sure to highlight why this is the best of your work and a true representation of you.
