Within your application you will need to provide a personal statement and a visual portfolio. A personal statement and visual portfolio provide us with a window into your creative voice and style prior to interview. Visual Portfolio requirements will change from course to course so please look for the correct information below before submitting your application.

Please submit your final portfolio here. For video submissions, please provide a link to your portfolio. For document uploads, please use the upload tool. All portfolio submissions require a supporting statement.

We are looking for people who are passionate about filmmaking and storytelling.

We would like you to demonstrate your creativity and storytelling ability and give us an idea of your voice no matter what piece you choose to submit:

BA Practical Filmmaking

Please choose one of the following for your portfolio submission:

  • A short film,  3-5 minutes in length (uploaded to vimeo/youtube/personal website) Your name and role must appear in the credits
  • Storyboard or mood board (with accompanying 250 word synopsis)
  • Story told through Photography  (with accompanying 500 words)

BA Screenwriting

Please choose one of the following for your portfolio submission:

  • A short script (3-5 pages in length)
  • A short story or creative writing piece
  • A storyboard or mood board with a short story (500 words)
  • A short film that you wrote or contributed to (uploaded to vimeo/youtube) Your name and role must appear in the credits

MA Filmmaking:

Please choose one of the following for your portfolio submission: 

  • A showreel no longer than 10 minutes (uploaded to vimeo/youtube/personal website). For each piece you submit in your showreel you must state your role must appear in the credits
  • A short film,  3-5 minutes in length (uploaded to vimeo/youtube/personal website) Your name and role must appear in the credits

MA Screenwriting 

Please choose one of the following for your portfolio submission: 

  • A short script (a minimum of 3 pages)
  • A short story or creative writing piece
  • A storyboard or mood board with a short story (500 words)
  • A short film that you wrote or contributed to (uploaded to vimeo/youtube) Your name and role must appear in the credits

Where appropriate, give us some context for your visual portfolio, outlining why your submitted these particular pieces.

  • How do they demonstrate your ability and interests?
  • What did you learn from the process?

You can tell us this in a separate statement or include it in your personal statement, but be sure to highlight why this is the best of your work and a true representation of you.

MA

Visual Portfolio requirements:

We are looking for people who are passionate about filmmaking and storytelling.

If you have technical ability, demonstrate this through your showreel,or a scriptwriter, through your writing, but most importantly, we want to get an idea of your voice.

Visual Showreel requirements:

  • No longer that 10 minutes (no less than 5)
  • It should be one piece, uploaded to vimeo/youtube or similar
  • We are looking for storytellers at Central Film School, so try to demonstrate understanding of narrative and characterisation.

Screenwriters:

  • Examples of writing, creative writing, short stories or screenplays
  • Maximum 3 pieces
