Why did you choose to study in London?
When looking into where I would like to study, I just knew I wanted to move to an English speaking country. Then knowing that I wanted to do film, London obviously had a great appeal for its industry. And even outside of studying, London has so much to offer, so many things to explore! You just cannot be bored here ever.
What were the factors you looked for when deciding University to go to?
Factors I looked out for when deciding on where to study in regards to the university were the uni’s approach to welcoming and integrating international students like myself, but also the overall structure and content of the course I wanted to pursue. Every uni, every program is different, and you need to find what suits you. For me, that was the practical and hands on approach that Central Film School offers. I also liked that CFS is purely a film school and I would share a space with just filmmakers, screenwriters and actors who were dedicated to telling stories.
What has been your favourite part of your university experience so far?
Being on set. Whenever we have had any uni or personal projects and you step onto the set you have prepped and see all the individual pieces click together – that is my favourite feeling.
Also meeting so many fun people. Before going to film school, I was the only one in my friend group interested in film, and to now have a group of like-minded people feels like a nice warm hug. Because what could be better than doing the thing you love with people you love?
If you had to give one piece of advice to an aspiring film student looking to study in London, what would it be?
Be open to all new projects and try new roles but also don’t be afraid to say ‘no’ to the things that do not appeal to you. There is only so much that can fit into a schedule, and you better fill it with the things you are truly passionate about.
How has your experience living in Student Accommodation been?
The great thing about living in Student Accommodation is definitely being with friends. I was lucky to get a room on the same floor as many other people from my course which made it so much easier to befriend each other initially, but also now it is just lovely to always know people around, meet them in the kitchen, cook together.
What would you say to people who are worried about making new friends at university?
If you want to meet people, you will. Central Film School has an array of events, especially at the start of the year for people to meet, but also throughout the year to mix and mingle. There is after school clubs and activities one could join, and ultimately, I think what it boils down to is that everyone at this school is here because they already share the same passion for storytelling and that does connect.
