Carlie Tufnell Spark Fund

Carlie Tufnell

In memory of Carlie Tufnell, a former student of Central Film School, the charitable trust set up in his name has created a developmental fund for new graduates of CFS to support bringing their short-film projects to fruition.

The awarded amount, of up to £10,000, will be allocated through the submission of written bids followed by a presentation, with a shortlist of applicants pitching to a panel made up of CFS staff and trustees of the Carlie Tufnell Charitable Trust.

Timeline for the application:

The deadline for written submissions is Friday, 18th October, 2024. Submission documents should be emailed to spark@centralfilmschool.com. The total length of the written submission should be no more than 30 A4 pages and must include a draft script and project budget.

Shortlisted submissions will take part in an in-person pitch in late October 2024.

Applicants will be informed of the bid process outcome in mid-November, which will be a presentation at the annual Graduation Film Screening on December 3rd 2024.

Eligibility and other conditions:

  • The primary bidder must have graduated from a CFS academic programme with the 2024 cohort.
  • The project should have a proportion of CFS students/alumni as crew and/or part of the creative team.
  • The production shoot must primarily take place in the UK.
  • The project must be ‘realisable’. The submission must include a script and budget. If the total budget is more than the maximum award, additional funding must be identified in the written submission. Projects should be short films no more than 25 minutes in length.
  • The applicant must be new to the screen industries – those with extensive previous professional experience are not eligible.
  • Where the panel feels there is more than one excellent bid it may divide the total fund between multiple bids.
  • The final decision of the award will be the panel’s alone, with no right to appeal for bidders
We are honoured to be able to offer our new graduates this opportunity and look forward to receiving your submissions. If you have any questions regarding the fund or process, please contact spark@centralfilmschool.com.
