Young Filmmakers Summer School

This 6 day course will serve as a perfect starting point for the creation of Visual Portfolios, supporting students who wish to study filmmaking or screenwriting at Film School.

Through practical experimentation, you will be given the chance to experience Central Film School in a fun and creative environment.

Selection Criteria


You must complete an application alongside either a 250 word statement or a link to a short, up to 5 minutes, video answering the following questions; 


1. Why you would like to study the course?

2. What do you hope to get out of the course?

3. Who inspires you in the filmmaking industry and why?

We priorities students who apply based on the following criteria;

  • Applicants living in a Polar 4 Quintile 1 or Quintile 2 postcode, check your postcode here
  • Applicants in Year 12, or equivalent (college), at the point of application
  • Applicants who have been in the care of a Local Authority since the age of 16
  • Applicants who are Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic

I’ve learned a lot, mainly about all the different roles on the film set and what they all involve and how even if you think that your role is quite small, is actually very important. I think the teachers are all really helpful and I really enjoyed it. My favourite part is operating the camera.
